Are your Christmas tech gifts adequately insured?

Over the festive season, shoppers have been out purchasing all the latest must have gadgets for there nearest and dearest but did anyone think about insuring these items?

The local thieves, scally wags, toe rages or whatever you like to call them know at this time of year, that people have shiny new expensive gadgets and they are thinking of ways to steal them from you.

As Christmas day is now well and truly over with, they know that people will be out an about showing off their latest gadget’s to friends and family so be careful when you’re at the shops, in a restaurant, down the local pub or in a bar in town as they will be keeping an eye out to spot an opportunity to relieve you off your new gadget. They often use distraction tactics so don’t leave your phone on the table or bar where they can easily swipe it.

Make sure your gadgets are insured

Protect yourself with gadget insurance many people will have got brand new phones, tablets & laptops on Christmas Day, it’s important that their expensive new devices are adequately insured.

You should check your home insurance policy but remember if you’re just relying on your home contents policy to cover devices stolen from outside the home may lead to disappointment, as many policies typically just cover items inside the home, such as TVs and PCs and not those taken outside of the property.

You should check if you need to specified the items on your policy to ensure your gadgets such as laptops and mobile phones are covered for lost, damage or theft when taken outside the home.

It is therefore important people properly check their home contents insurance policies to determine what exactly is covered in terms of taking high-tech devices away from the home. If unsure call your broker to confirm.
